Where Lottery Proceeds Go: New Web Tools Provide
Answers
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (August 20,
2010) - To better illustrate how
Missouri Lottery dollars
are used to provide educational opportunities for Missouri students and support
Missouri businesses, Molottery.com has launched two new map features that
pinpoint how Lottery dollars were spent in each of our states 114
counties and the city of St. Louis during FY10.
The Education Expenditures
Map breaks down the amount of Lottery proceeds spent on public
education by both Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education,
detailing the specific programs that received the funds.
The Missouri Legislature
appropriates 100 percent of annual Lottery proceeds for public education, and
we want all of our players, and Missouri citizens in general, to be able to see
just how those Lottery dollars are being used in their home county,
said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery.
This map is a great way to see that, showing exactly what education
programs have benefited from the Lottery.
The second map, Education,
Retailers and Players, displays county-specific totals for Lottery
dollars allocated to education, as well as the total amounts provided to
Missouri businesses in the form of retailer commissions and incentives, and to
our winners through prizes.
Both maps can be accessed by using
the Search by County listings under the Where the $
Goes drop-down menu at
www.molottery.com.
In addition to adding these new
tools to provide clearer Lottery information, Reardon has also begun
distributing a monthly Directors Update
e-newsletter.
My update is designed to
keep you current about what is happening at the Missouri Lottery and how the
Lottery benefits the state of Missouri and its citizens, she
said. It will be published monthly to coincide with our monthly
proceeds transfer to public education.
To receive Reardons
e-newsletter, send an e-mail to director@molottery.com and put
Directors Update in the subject line.

Together the organizations have developed nine instant games, selling
$1,006,803,938 in tickets and raising $141,596,591 for the Bay States 351
cities and towns.
Boston is the
nations number one sports town for a reason, said Treasurer
Cahill, who chairs the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. Not
only do we have four franchises dedicated to winning, but also owners who
deeply care about helping our communities. Together we have raised more than
$140 million for police officers, fire fighters, teachers and other essential
public services.
Joining Treasurer Cahill at the

Mobilotto Dispels the Myth that Remote Gaming Increases Problem or
Excessive Gaming
Making it Easier for
Lottery Operators to Reach Their Customers
TORONTO, Ontario, Canada (August 19,
2010) -- As per the announcement on August 10 by Ontario Finance minister
Dwight Duncan and OLG Chairman of the Board Paul Godfrey, the
Ontario lottery and gaming
commission intends to provide online gaming services to the residents of
Ontario.
This is a progressive move towards
the future that will provide millions of dollars to good causes supported by
OLG.
The focus to this point has been on
the leaking revenue spent on off-shore gaming sites that have gone unregulated
and escaped taxation by the federal and provincial governments. The true
potential of OLGs shortfall comes from addressing both these off-shore
sites as well as modernizing the distribution channel to include OLGs
popular gaming products directly to a players mobile device.
Mobilotto is an Ontario based
company that has spent the last two years developing a state of the art mobile
lottery solution that will modernize the existing lottery distribution
channels, introduce new players to lottery, and increase revenue for the
Lottery. Today, basic cellular phones are rapidly being replaced with
sophisticated smart phone devices that are carried in excess of 14 hours per
day, and capable of many advance functions. This advanced functionality
allows the consumer to make secure and convenient transactions via their mobile
phone.
OLG following the lead of other
world class lotteries clearly understands the opportunities that are possible
by making their product offerings more accessible to their present players.
This level of convenience coupled with the use of technology will undoubtedly
attract a new contingent of lottery followers, thus creating a new incremental
revenue stream.
Detractors of OLGs decision
suggest that by allowing online and mobile services to the consumer will
increase problem or excessive gaming do not fully understand the capabilities
and benefits that these services will provide the lottery operator. No
longer would gaming be an anonymous purchase that is difficult, if not
impossible, to control.
 |
By using technology like that
created by Mobilotto the lottery operator can now allow limits to be
effectively set by either the lottery or the user themselves which can monitor
gaming behavior and help identify potential problems. Additionally the
issues of fraud that have been prevalent in recent years would be a thing of
the past as the ticket purchase is tied to the consumers personal
account, and stored in a secure digital format, and the ticket never leaves the
players hands.
Enhanced social responsibility
controls and security features will only prove beneficial to reduce problem
gaming in Ontario.
In todays digital age it only
makes sense to provide a digital ticket over digital means. OLG is to be
applauded for their forward thinking and with the right technology partner can
provide a world class secure solution, accepted and adopted by new and existing
players. The Future of Lottery is in your hand!

to 10 in Hotel Radisson, in San José, the international seminary
Legal aspects of State Lotteries and Betting.
In the current global world,
everything changes quickly and organizations connected to state lotteries and
games of chance are not exempt from those changes. Technology and diligence in
communication created new forms of gaming, that force organizations to revise
and strengthen the legal aspects in order to avoid the conflicts that these
alterations may generate. In order to accompany the accelerated rhythm of the
changes, technicians of these entities need a continuous training in
educational programs.
The seminar will allow participants
to get to know the functions and objectives of a Legal Advice in a lottery. The
most recent legislative novelties will be discussed, and a revision and
analysis of legal issues in the betting sales network will be performed.

National Association of Convenience Stores Express Disappointment
with Governments Recent Announcement to Move Forward With Online
Gaming
- Appeal to
Ontarios Premier for Lottery Support
- The Ontario government
is seeking to offer all forms of gaming online, a move that OCSA maintains will
have a significant and detrimental impact on convenience store
traffic
TORONTO, Ontario (August 17, 2010) -
The Ontario Convenience Stores Association (OCSA) sent a letter last week to
the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, expressing disappointment with his
administrations recent announcement to move forward with online gaming in
Ontario.
The administration is seeking to
offer all forms of gaming online, including lotto and scratch-type offerings, a
move that OCSA maintains will have a significant and detrimental impact on
convenience store traffic.
The Ontario Convenience
Stores Association (OCSA) is deeply disappointed the government made no effort
to engage our association in the decision making process prior to launching its
consultations on internet gaming, the letter began. Given
our 30 year relationship with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), and the
millions spent installing, upgrading and maintaining nearly 10,000 lottery
terminals in convenience store retail locations over the years; we hoped the
government would have been more forthcoming.
Despite the governments
announcement that there will be a 12-18 month consultation period that will
involve OCSA participation, the association said the decision to move forward
has already been decided.
We are particularly
concerned this move to allow internet gaming in Ontario is predetermined
regardless of the findings from these consultations. OLG has a strong history
of only building gaming facilities in communities after extensive consultation
and we fear it is abandoning that trust.
The OCSA has requested a personal
meeting to ensure that its members interests are respected.
