Record-Breaking Sales Week BALTIMORE, Maryland (June 10, 2009) - The
Maryland Lottery continues to break
records, this time with Keno.
Last week's Keno sales
topped $9.37 million, making it the highest sales week for that game during a
non-Keno promotion period. Total Keno sales were up
by more than $3 million when compared with sales from the same period last
year. The increase is due largely to the introduction
of the new Keno Super Bonus feature, which launched for the first time on June
1st." During its inaugural week, the Keno Super
Bonus produced $3.1 million in sales," said Lottery Director Buddy Roogow.
"We are extremely excited about this new feature that allows players to win
even more." The Keno Super Bonus can be added to
any Keno ticket for an additional $2 per play. Once added, winners can multiply
their prizes by up to 20 times and are guaranteed to multiply their winnings at
least twice. Contact:Carole Everett, 410-230-8800
SOURCE: Maryland Lottery NFL Recommends MDI to Support Teams and Lotteries
With Launch of Scratch-off Tickets ALPHARETTA, Georgia, USA (June 9, 2009) --
MDI Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Scientific Games (NASDAQ:
SGMS), will be considered by various teams within the National
Football League (NFL) to provide expertise related to lotteries that will
be introducing team-themed scratch-off games starting with the upcoming 2009
season. The NFL recently passed a resolution
permitting teams to enter into agreements with lotteries in their marketing
territory for lottery scratch-off games and other promotions. If
teams choose, they can use MDI to provide operational support for executing the
games or they can choose to have MDI handle the entire process, including
contracting with their respective lotteries.
MDI Entertainment, the
leading provider of licensed games in the lottery industry, has extensive
experience working with other major professional sports leagues, including
Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the
National Hockey League (NHL), in making team marks available to lotteries for
use on game tickets. Were pleased with
the Leagues decision to open up the category. We believe MDI is the
leading expert to help implement these games, said Kyle Rogers,
Executive Vice President and General Manager of MDI Entertainment.
Major professional sports leagues have generated some of the most
successful Scratch-off games for their lotteries under our management and we
can help bring the same success to NFL teams and the lotteries they
support. We think the NFL member Clubs will see the value of our
experience in all aspects of developing a lottery game from game design to
creative approvals to fulfilling prizes to second chance drawing management. We
will be briefing teams on the options available to them and are prepared to hit
the ground running as time is short for the upcoming season.

Virginia Lottery Wins National Communications Award
RICHMOND, Virginia (June 11,
2009) - The Virginia Lottery announced
today that, along with its partners, the Virginia Parent Teachers Association
(PTA), The Supply Room Companies and Qorvis Communications, has been named a
2009 Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Award of Excellence winner for
its 2008 "Super Teacher" awards program. The Virginia Lottery received the
Award of Excellence in the Community Relations- Government Organization
category, making this their first-ever national PRSA award. The Lottery was one
of only two Virginia-based companies to receive a PRSA award this year and was
selected as one of 126 entry finalists to attend the event out of nearly 900
entries nationwide.
"Winning a PRSA Award of
Excellence for Super Teacher is a win for us and our talented communications
team, but is also a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work of teachers
throughout Virginia," said Paula Otto, Virginia Lottery Executive Director.
"This announcement is a great way to wind down our 20th birthday." The
Virginia Lottery developed the Super Teacher award program to raise awareness
of its support of K-12 public education in the Commonwealth. The program
recognizes deserving Virginia teachers for their hard work and dedication to
their students. Winning teachers are given a credit for new classroom supplies
from The Supply Room Companies, as well as a cash prize from the Virginia
Lottery. Both awards are delivered during a surprise presentation at the
winning teacher's school. Finishing its second year, the 2009 Super Teacher
Award program received more than 1,200 nominations of worthy teachers
throughout Virginia. The eight winning teachers were announced last month.
About the Virginia Lottery Nearly 95
cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the
Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer
commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated
solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the
Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia's public schools. The
latest annual profits of $455 million currently represent about 6 percent of
state funding for public education in Virginia. In 20 years, the Lottery has
sold more than $20 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1 billion in retailer
commissions and paid more than $10.9 billion in prizes to players. SOURCE:

 Push Play
Electronic Instant Games Pulling in Strong Sales
ALPHARETTA, GA June 8, 2009 -- Lottery players interested
in new kinds of play experiences may have found just what they are looking for
with the new PushPlay electronic handheld games introduced in late April
by the Kansas Lottery.
During the first 5 weeks of
sales, the Kansas Lottery reports that PushPlay sales have exceeded
$500,000, accounting for as much as 5% of statewide weekly instant sales, even
though the product has been in limited distribution. PushPlay game cards are technologically advanced
instant lottery tickets. Instead of scratching off a ticket, the player
uses a reusable electronic player with an LCD screen to display the game.
The player will insert or push the card into the player, and
then play the game thus the name
PushPlay. First-time players purchase a
PushPlay TM combination pack for $20, which contains the reusable electronic
player and four game cards. Players who wish to play additional game cards can
purchase them separately for $5 each. To date in Kansas, over 8,800 of the $20
combination packs have been sold, while sales of the additional game cards in
the most recent week outpaced the combination packs by a ratio of 8 to 1 in
unit sales.
We are very
pleased with Push Play, said Kansas Lottery Executive Director
Ed Van Petten. Players are
not only giving it a try, but they are coming back to buy additional cards. The
level of repeat purchases we have seen indicates that the game really works
well for players. The electronic players
and game tickets were produced for the Kansas Lottery by
Scientific Games. PushPlay
was designed to deliver the interactive play experiences that players want,
while also being easy to implement for lotteries and retailers, said
Steve Saferin, Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Scientific Games.
Being the first to market with a new product is not always an easy
decision to make. We appreciate the faith shown in this concept by the Kansas
Lottery and are gratified to see that paying off.
In Kansas, the initial
games offered were Yahtzee and Lucky 7s. Several additional game concepts
have been developed by Scientific Games and are available for use with the
electronic player. About Scientific
Games Scientific Games Corporation is a leading
integrated supplier of instant tickets, systems and services to lotteries

Pennsylvania
Gaming Control Board New Chair HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (June 3, 2009) -- Pennsylvania
Supreme Court Justice Max Baer today said the citizens of the Commonwealth are
relying upon the leadership of new Gaming Control Board Chair Gregory C. Fajt
to continue the tremendous growth and strict oversight of the new slots casino
industry. Justice Baer made the comments after
swearing in Fajt as the third Chairman of the Board at the start of today's
public meeting. Fajt was named Chairman by Governor Edward G. Rendell after
serving for the past two years as the Governor's Chief of Staff. He will serve
a three-year term.
Baer said Fajt's choice to
be Chairman is a tribute to his integrity and collegiality that is universally
recognized in state government. "Greg gets the
highest compliments from those he deals with because he is always honest, above
board and accessible," Justice Baer said. Fajt,
who served two years as an ex officio member of the Gaming Control Board when
he was Secretary of Revenue, said assuming the Chairmanship was like coming
home to continue service he started in 2004. "When
I served during the formation of this agency, I always said that the staff
assembled to take on the task of starting a new industry such as gaming was
second to none," Fajt said. "As I return, what has been accomplished by
this Board and staff in just four years is nothing short of amazing."
Fajt noted that the accomplishments include the opening of
eight successful casinos that have collectively already produced $1.5 billion
in tax revenues that are being returned to Pennsylvania homeowners, assisting
local governments who host casinos, and saving the horse racing industry.
"In a downturned economy, gaming companies have also
come into Pennsylvania at just the right time, thus far creating over 7,000
family sustaining jobs," Fajt added. Also today,
Kevin O'Toole, an experienced gaming regulator in both New York and New Jersey,
attended his first Gaming Control Board meeting. O'Toole was selected by the
Board in April as the second Executive Director of the agency and began work
this week after completion of an extensive background investigation.
In comments to the Board, O'Toole thanked the Board for
the opportunity to serve, lauded Frank Donaghue for his service as Acting
Executive Director for the past year, and said he looks forward to using his
deep industry expertise to help with the continued growth and stringent
oversight of legalized slots gaming in the Commonwealth.
