Alchemy3 Introduces A3 Rewards, a New Way To Award Prizes

Lotteries Can Now Offer Entertainment Prize Packages Redeemable at Local Retailers

ALPHARETTA, Georgia, USA (July 23, 2008) -- Alchemy3® today launched

A3 Rewards, a new type of lottery prize package that will help lottery players stretch their entertainment budgets.

Movie Nite

The centerpiece of the A3 Rewards package is “Movie Nite,” a lottery prize of up to four movie tickets and concession dollars. Other A3 Rewards prizes include CDs and DVDs.

This allows us to bring new elements to lottery prize packages that have been difficult or impossible to do in the past,” said David Schorr, Alchemy3’s chief executive officer and one of its three founders. “Instant lottery games have always provided instant gratification, but now we can extend that to prizes other than cash. It's the first time lotteries have been able to accomplish that with this sort of efficiency and reach.”

For each lottery that uses A3 Rewards, Alchemy3 provides and manages a custom Web site. Players can enter codes from winning tickets and instantly print out or request by mail certificates they can redeem for movie tickets, concessions, DVDs or CDs that are instantly redeemable at local movie theaters and major retail outlets. The technology used for A3 Rewards has been used to operate similar customer loyalty programs for companies such as Starbucks, General Motors, Best Buy and Kodak.

DVD

"We’ve thought through how to make this successful, and A3 Rewards is very easy for lotteries to work into an instant game,” Schorr said. “Alchemy3 delivers a completely integrated game package, including a custom Web site where players can redeem their prizes. You scratch off a winner, go to the site and enter your code, instantly print out your coupon, and you're off to the movies or to your local retailer to pick up your CD or DVD.

The A3 Rewards program highlights Alchemy3’s unique combination of consumer marketing and lottery experience. Using a nationwide network of more than 35,000 movie screens and affiliations with retail chains such as Target, Kmart and Circuit City, A3 Rewards gives lotteries a way to offer popular prize packages redeemable at local retailers, and the program is easy to stage every step of the way.

A3 Rewards prize packages appeal to a broad range of consumers, and people will enjoy playing the games and winning these prizes over and over again,” Schorr said.

Quantum Loyalty Systems is Alchemy3’s exclusive Entertainment Rewards provider. With offices on every continent, Quantum is the No. 1 promotional movie-ticket provider in the world, with acceptance at 98.5 percent of all screens in the U.S. Quantum’s retail network includes every major media and entertainment retailer in the U.S, and more than 1,000 independent locations – virtually everywhere DVDs and CDs are sold.

We have long believed that lottery players would find tremendous value in Entertainment Rewards, and we are thrilled to be working with Alchemy3 to bring these universally appealing, relevant rewards into the lottery category,” said Ron Randolph-Wall, chairman and CEO of Quantum and the inventor of universally accepted Entertainment Rewards.

Record-Setting Year Sees Lottery Pass $2.5 Billion Mark

Strong Sales Mean Record-Breaking Support For State Education And Institutions

TRENTON, New Jersey, USA (July 18, 2008) – New Jersey Lottery Acting Executive Drector William T. Jourdain and Lottery Chairman Robert D'Anton today announced that the New Jersey Lottery has surpassed $2.5 billion in sales.

This marks the seventh consecutive year that sales have shattered the $2 billion mark.  This past fiscal year was another strong one in terms of sales, overall winners, retailer commissions and contributions back to the Garden State . Nearly $1.5 billion in cash and prizes were awarded by the Lottery last year.

State Treasurer R. David Rousseau praised the Lottery, saying, “In addition to the benefits our business community sees from having Lottery in their stores, they're not the only winners.  It's important that we always keep in mind what this year's $882 million is all about—improving the quality of life, the opportunities and the future for our students, our colleges and universities, the developmentally disabled, and our State's veterans.”

“The Lottery offers a unique gaming experience for everyone,” said Acting Executive Director William T. Jourdain. “Whether it is our many diverse and exciting new instant ticket games or the daily and bi-weekly jackpots offered in our many live-drawing games, the Lottery continues to grow and evolve its portfolio of offerings to the playing public to ensure that the needs of our beneficiary community continue to be met in the years to come.

Jourdain also noted that the Lottery is the State's fourth largest individual revenue producer, and accomplished this fiscal year's remarkable milestone even while administrative expenses were pared by over 13%.  In FY'08, the Lottery contributed $882 million for State-sponsored programs, the largest revenue contribution amount in Lottery history, shattering the old record of $844 million by approximately $38 million.  Since the Lottery was created in 1970, nearly $17.3 billion has been generated in support of programs such as: county community college capital improvement initiatives; school nutrition efforts; the Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf; the operation of centers for the developmentally disabled, state psychiatric hospitals and homes for disabled soldiers; higher education tuition and grants; higher education opportunity fund programs, aid to independent colleges and universities and funding for the Garden State Scholars Program.

Many of these initiatives would have an exceedingly difficult time if not for Lottery proceeds,” added Lottery Chairman Robert D'Anton.  “The Lottery continues to function as an integral component of the State's economy, touching programs and services that transcend winning numbers and million dollar jackpots.  From veterans' centers to county, State and private colleges, our support helps make a difference in New Jersey's communities.

D'Anton also noted that the effects of the Lottery's success are felt throughout the entire State, including within the small business community, “The Lottery's network of more than 6,100 retailers - chain stores, supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores - earn five percent of their Lottery ticket sales in the form of commissions.  In FY '08, the Lottery returned commissions just under $140 million, providing many of our State's small businesses with a valuable source of extra revenue.”

The New Jersey Lottery's fiscal year 2008 sales are as follows:

NJ Lottery Game FY '08 Sales
Instant Games $ 1,284,038,224

NZ Lotteries Survey Finds Travel and Houses are Favourite Dreams

Survey Finds 21 Year Olds Choose Travel and Houses as Favourite Dreams

NEW ZEALAND (July 21, 2008) -- In order to mark Lotto's 21st Birthday, NZ Lotteries commissioned a survey to find out today's 21 year olds' hopes and dreams and to find out how much money would make them feel rich. The survey confirms that travel and buying houses are still favourite dreams for many young people, but it also reveals that many have more pressing financial concerns such as clearing student loans.

NZ Lotteries asked a thousand 21 year olds what was top of their 'to do' list in the next ten years. The survey shows that, despite the pressure of student loans, top of the list for 34 percent of the 21 year olds was to travel overseas. However, buying a house and getting a good job in the next ten years were also top of the priority list for 22 percent of survey respondents. Getting married was preferred by only 12 percent, and only 5 percent of respondents put having kids at the top of their list.

Today's 21 year olds have relatively modest financial dreams, with 22 percent saying winning $500,000 would make them 'feel rich', and 27 percent saying winning a million would make them feel wealthy. Only nine percent needed $20 million in order for them to feel rich.

Survey respondents were also asked what would be the 'first' thing they would do if they won Lotto. The traditional kiwi dream of buying a house is still alive for today's 21 year olds with 20 percent choosing to do this first if they won Lotto. However, a total of 35 percent of survey respondents seem to have more pressing money concerns with paying off debt (19 percent) or paying off a student loan (17 percent) chosen as the first move after winning a big prize.

Parents will be pleased to know that their children have not forgotten them with 11 percent of winners saying they would pay off their parents' mortgage first if they were lucky enough to win Lotto.

NZ Lotteries was also interested in what presents are being given at 21st parties in the 21st century asking respondents what their favourite gift was. The traditional 21st key still makes an appearance with five percent saying it was their best present. Transport was however considered the best gift with a lucky 31 percent saying they got a car, motorbike or scooter for their 21st.

A further 13 percent chose jewellery or accessories as their best 21st present, whilst ten percent liked getting electronic goods such as ipods, cameras or game consoles. Five percent of respondents said spending time with their family or friends was the best present they got.

More unusual, best 21st presents included rifles, a sewing machine and getting engaged. Four survey respondents were given a house for their 21st, and one person was given a prize-winning Lotto ticket!

NZ Lotteries has chosen to celebrate Lotto's 21st birthday by giving away the largest number of prizes ever in a draw over 2100 cash prizes worth more than $5.4 million.

All Lotto players who purchase a ticket between Sunday 20 July and Saturday 2 August will receive an extra promotion voucher and will go into the draw to win one of the extra prizes in Lotto's 21st Birthday draw, held on 2 August.

The extra birthday prizes include, three top prizes of $1,000,000, two of $500,000, twenty-one of $20,000 and 2100 of $500, making a total of more than $5.4 million extra on offer.

On top of these extra prizes, players will also have the chance to win a share of the millions on offer through Lotto, Strike and Powerball.

"Since the launch of Lotto in August 1987, more than $6 billion has been won by lucky players and NZ Lotteries has returned more than $2.3 billion to communities through the NZ Lottery Grants Board. We are delighted to play a part in making so many Kiwi dreams come true," says Mr McLeay.

Long-Awaited Gambling Study Released

Social and Economic Impact of Gambling Study

Classified Ad

HOBART, Tasmania, Australia (July 23, 2008) -- The Treasurer, Michael Aird, today released a comprehensive study into the impacts of gambling in Tasmania.

Mr. Aird said the study, commissioned by the Government and conducted by the South Australian Centre for Economic Studies, will be repeated every three years to track trends in the nature and impacts of gambling in Tasmania.

I received the Consultant’s final report yesterday, and as promised, I have released it publicly at the earliest opportunity.

The study combines an analysis of statistical information together with a range of qualitative information from face to face interviews with key stakeholders and written submissions.

It provides an important information base from which to carry out further research and to develop responses into the issue of problem gambling and caring for patrons.

I have referred the study to the Tasmanian Gaming Commission for the preparation of a detailed response which will then be considered by Cabinet.

While there was no significant change in the prevalence of problem gambling, the study highlights the social costs are significant and the impact of gambling in lower socio economic communities is an area of concern.”

The Study is required to be tabled in Parliament within 20 sitting days of its receipt.

The key findings of the study are:

  • that the net economic impact of gambling was inconclusive, ranging from an estimated economic loss of $62.7 million, to an economic gain of $75.5 million per annum.
  • the benefits of gambling largely come from gambling taxes and from the recreational enjoyment by individuals.
  • other benefits such as investment, employment and tourism are considered to be transfers of activity between sectors rather than a change in overall activity.
  • the costs of gambling are from social costs on individuals, families and the community and from excessive losses by problem gamblers.
  • the rate of problem gambling in 2007 has not changed significantly from the previous study in 2005 and remains relatively low with the rate of problem gamblers at 0.54 per cent and gamblers with a moderate risk to be 0.86 per cent of the adult population.
  • the main source of gambling problems comes from electronic gaming machines whether they are in hotels, clubs or casinos.
  • Tasmania has a lower concentration of electronic gaming machines per capita and gambling expenditure per capita than the national average.
  • That some local communities, characterised by higher socio economic disadvantage, appear to have disproportionately higher per capita gaming expenditure and higher concentrations of gaming machines.
  • that Tasmania’s decision to ban ATMs in hotels and clubs is ahead of other States, and
  • there are many advantages in having electronic gaming machines with the ability to give gambler’s greater control over their expenditure by such means as smart cards.

The gambling study is available at the Treasury website www.treasury.tas.gov.au.
