GTECH Announces
Joint Venture with Veikkaus Oy, Finnish National Lottery
Operator
WEST GREENWICH, Rhode Island, USA (June 21, 2005) --
GTECH Holdings Corporation (NYSE: GTK)
today announced that GTECH Global Services Corporation Limited, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of GTECH Corporation, has entered into a joint venture agreement
with Veikkaus Oy, the operator of the
Finnish national lottery, to develop and market innovative new games and
solutions for the lottery and gaming industries. The primary focus of the joint
venture is the development of government-sponsored games and solutions over
expanding interactive channels such as Internet, mobile telephony, and
interactive television, with a main emphasis on sports betting. GTECH will hold
an 81 percent equity stake in the joint venture, with the remaining 19 percent
held by Veikkaus. The joint venture will be located in Finland, and initially
staffed by Veikkaus personnel. The joint venture agreement is expected to close
and be operational in the third quarter of this fiscal year, subject to certain
closing conditions in the agreement.
"Our joint venture with Veikkaus is another important
step we are taking to enhance our solutions and game content portfolio, and
deploy it over the widest array of channels available in the industry,"
said GTECH President and CEO W. Bruce Turner.
"We believe the core assets of our two organizations can
be effectively leveraged to allow us to accelerate the development of new games
and solutions by creating an incubator setting, with the primary objective of
developing government-sponsored games and solutions over the rapidly-growing
interactive channels," continued Mr. Turner.
"GTECH brings to the table an unparalleled level of
technical skills, industry expertise, reliability, and global credibility,"
said Veikkaus CEO Risto Nieminen. "This joint venture will provide Veikkaus
with enhanced game innovation, particularly for our interactive channels. It
also provides a platform for new games and solutions that can be produced and
marketed more rapidly and more effectively for Veikkaus' core business --
delivering lottery games for Finnish consumers."
GTECH will also benefit from Veikkaus' successful track
record of developing new games and cultivating business relationships necessary
to deploy new games beyond the traditional retailer-assisted distribution
channel. Veikkaus was the first lottery in the world to introduce Internet
betting and live sports betting, among many other innovations. "When
combined with the strength and resources that GTECH brings in the areas of
research and development, and technology and infrastructure, this joint venture
will play a powerful role in the accelerated development of new solutions and
game content required to advance GTECH's overall objective in the gaming
industry, which is serving our customers," said Mr. Turner.

The joint venture will continue Veikkaus' long tradition of
innovation by developing new solutions and games for Veikkaus' implementation,
and for GTECH to productize and commercialize these innovations worldwide. The
joint venture will realize revenue from GTECH's commercialization and licensing
of new games and solutions developed by the joint venture.
"There is a lot we can learn from Veikkaus about their
approach to game development, but also in terms of interactive channel
experience and, maybe most importantly, keen insights we can gain into the
European marketplace," said Mr. Turner. "And, it provides another
advanced environment for pilot testing these innovative games and
solutions."

Missouri Lottery
Millionaires Greenin' Up The Ozarks
MISSOURI, USA (June 21, 2005) -- On the first day of summer,
a group of 21 Missouri Lottery-made millionaires and their families were found
"greenin up the Ozarks" during a litter pick-up event on the South
Creek Greenway in Springfield. The event was part of the Lotterys 19th
annual millionaires reunion.
"At the past two reunions, the millionaires gave
something back to the community. Two years ago, they sorted and boxed food at a
food bank in Kansas City, and last year, they assisted with outdoor games with
disabled people in St. Charles," said Gary Gonder, interim director of the
Missouri Lottery. "This year, we
thought the millionaires could give back to the Springfield community by
literally cleaning up one of the most beautiful areas of the state - the
Ozarks."
 |
This years attending jackpot winners represented
combined winnings of more than $242 million.
Gonder noted that the Lottery organizes the reunion and the
millionaires pay their own way. He said there are many reasons the reunions are
important, including it is a good opportunity for the millionaires to meet
others who have experienced such a sudden life change.
"Reunions are also a great forum for the Lottery to
present winners with information that affects them," Gonder said. "In
addition, they provide an opportunity for the media to interview jackpot
winners to ask how their lives have changed."
In addition to their clean-up efforts on the Greenway,
Lottery winners were presented with two seminars during the reunion: one
seminar titled "The Power of Sleep" by Dr. Terrence Coulter, medical
director at the CoxHealth Sleep Disorders Center in Springfield; and one
seminar called "Goal Digging: Your Map to Success" presented by Geri
Wiseman, professional development manager for the Missouri Lottery. The
millionaires also enjoyed entertainment in Branson during their stay, including
a dinner at the Hard Luck Diner and seeing the "Lost in the 50s"
show at the Starlite Theater.
Since the Lottery began in January 1986, 203 Missouri
Lottery jackpot tickets ranging from $1 million to $130.6 million, have been
sold. These jackpot prizes total more than $1.3 billion.

ALC Call Centre
Employees Honoured with Community Involvement Award
MONCTON, N.B. Canada (June 13, 2005) -- The
Atlantic Lottery Corporations (ALC)
in-house team of 40 call centre employees were honoured with a Community
Involvement award at the ContactNB Awards of Excellence gala, held Thursday
night in Saint John, N.B.
The team, called Lottery Support Services (LSS), picked up
the award that recognizes outstanding voluntary contributions made by a contact
centre to the citizens of N.B. Recipients are selected for
"demonstrating tremendous spirit and enriching both their workplace and
their community."
"It so amazing to see people come together to help,"
says LSS employee Nicole LeBlanc-Cormier. "Its so rewarding when you
get to see what youre doing and how youre helping," she added
| Advertisement
|
 |
The LSS team faithfully fundraises for the IWK and Kids Help
Phone as part of the Contact Centre Challenge but last fall, the group decided
that they could do more. "We wanted to spread the joy around and thought
about how we could do that," says Diane McCaie, Manager of Atlantic
Lotterys contact centre. "Be it tiny or huge efforts, wed be
helping someone in need."
Their generosity and willingness to "do more"
translated into some unique support for the Moncton Headstart Christmas food
box program, Nazareth House, and Sue Stultz's turkey drive. Moncton Headstart
received nearly 400, one kilogram jars of peanut butter in time for their
Christmas food box program. Any ALC employees who donated jars were
"thanked" by LSS, who arranged a "letter from Santa" for the peanut
butter donors child of choice.
Thanks to LSS, Christmas also came to the 30 residents of
Nazareth House. Each received a gift and a box of essentials including a
toothbrush, mittens, toques, razors and socks.
They didnt stop there. In January, they were compelled
to fundraise again; this time in support of tsunami relief, and generated $1165
for the cause.
Most recently, LSS handed over a cheque for $3889 at the IWK
telethon, representing their fundraising efforts for that charity.
There is a 100% participation rate by LSS employees in these
fundraising activities. Nicole is quick to note that ALC employees are the
greatest supporters of their fundraising. "There are so many good-hearted
people in the company. When we need help, employees from across the
organization come through."
