Biography: Jeanette Michael,
Executive Director D.C. Lottery
Jeanette A. Michael has extensive experience in
government service in the District of Columbia. After a myriad of appointments
to D.C. boards and commissions, Ms. Michael served as the D.C. Lottery and
Charitable Games Control Board's (D.C. Lottery) first General Counsel. After
leaving the DC Lottery in 1987, she served as a Deputy Director in the City's
Department of Human Services, as a supervisory attorney in the City's Office of
the Corporation Counsel and her last position before taking a 2 1/2-year
sabbatical was as Chief of Staff to the District's former mayor, Marion Barry,
Jr.
Returning to the Lottery as the deputy Director for
Operations, she assumed the duties and responsibilities of the Executive
Director after the departure of Anthony Cooper, former director of the Lottery.
During her short tenure she drafted a marketing plan, negotiated new games,
expedited the procurement process, approved the FY 2003 budget, refocused the
trade development department, pushed forward the agency's website, and changed
the role of the public relations department. She keeps the entire staff

supplement the District's general fund. She has been invited by professional
lottery organizations to address her colleagues in the industry on novel
approaches to increasing sales.
Ms. Michael has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political
science from Manhattanville College and a JD degree from George Washington
University. She is a certified public manager and a member in good standing of
