In 1976, the four Atlantic provincial
governments formed the Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) to market and manage
gaming activities on their behalf. When ALC started up, it had one game,
A-1, a passive ticket with a draw held every two weeks. Now, players choose
from a selection of more than 14 games, with everything from online to instant
to video lottery. This past year was one of highlights and achievements
for ALC. Playsphere was introduced providing Atlantic Canadians with a way to
safely and conveniently purchase lottery tickets online. ALC also opened the
Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre in Prince Edward Island. The
new centre will revitalize the Islands harness racing industry. Changes to
ALC's central gaming system - which manages the thousands of lottery
transactions made in Atlantic Canada every day - are making it easier for
retailers to manage their lottery business. The change, will improve our
retailers' security, inventory control and account management. ALC has
been part of the Atlantic Canadian economy and community for almost 30 years.
ALC supports many community events and charities throughout Atlantic Canada. We
accomplish this through sponsorship of events celebrating our culture and
people. We also stage entertaining promotions designed to raise much-needed
funds for worthy charities. From Sydney to Corner Brook, from Miramichi to
Charlottetown, ALC sponsors festivals and major events that celebrate the
Atlantic Canadian lifestyle.
