in Crossfire KERALA, India (June 14, 2004) -- Online
lottery companies, including Essar and Apollo, who entered the online lottery
business a few years ago, are in withdrawal mode due to negative public
perception, despite forecasts that the lottery business is worth crores of
rupees. According to local news sources the operators, who are acting as
agents for different State governments, are finding that many operations are no
longer viable, due mainly to the numerous legal cases pending in the Supreme
Court and high courts. The major concern for most States has been the
presence of lotteries of other State governments in their jurisdiction. Online
