Triple One’s Break the Bank; For Lottery Players, Pick 3 is Number One

BALTIMORE, Maryland (December 18, 2009) -  Thanks to today’s Midday Lottery drawing thousands of Pick 3 players will be smiling a little wider this winter weekend, their pockets stuffed with cash.  Thanks to that same drawing, an office full of Lottery accountants will be very busy.  This is what happens when triple numbers are drawn.

To say that the 1-1-1 drawn during the Midday Pick 3 drawing broke the bank is a bit of an understatement.  Those accountants were happy when the records showed that more than $340,000 was wagered on today’s drawing but their smiles faded when the Pick 3 results generated a $1.6 million payout – an astounding 473% of sales.  According to Lottery officials, big payouts are common when triples are drawn.  This day’s payout, however, will be one to remember for players.

The Maryland Lottery’s Pick 3 drawings are held twice daily -- midday and evening, seven-days-a-week and are televised every day on WBAL-TV.

President of Polla Chilena: One of the 100 Leading Women in Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile (December 10, 2009) - After 16 thousand people virtually nominated one thousand Chilean women to be acknowledged and awarded by their leadership and performance, an elite jury chose one hundred out of these women as the ones who have the highest national credit.

Eight years ago, the organization called Mujeres Empresarias and El Mercurio -one of the most important mass media in the country-, decided to start an outstanding task: to acknowledge and award the performance and work of several women in their different areas, who have become an inspiring example for the Chilean women.

This year, and after been nominated for this award, the President of Polla Chilena's Board of Directors, Veronica Montellano, became one of the 100 leading Chilean women, under the category of "Executives and Entrepreneurs," a distinction that was shared with other outstanding Chilean women who also were distinguished by their work in the areas of Public Service, Social Service, Professionals and Academics.

Such recognition was obtained after analysing and studying each of the cases proposed. This was done by the jury of this initiative comprised by entrepreneurs, executives, governmental authorities and public players, being all of them highly important within the country.

In the awarding ceremony, the Executive Director of Mujeres Empresarias organization, Francisca Valdes, highlighted the increasing participation this event has had during the years and the interest shown by the people towards this event, as compared to the beginnings of the initiative. The possibility of rewarding the work of many Chilean women who "dares and give themselves" in its most diverse roles, as well as generating and inspiring instances for all those women who are still behind to fight for their own dreams, are the motivations driving this public awarding initiative, as stated Valdes.

Her excellent professional career in each of her executive roles, her outstanding work in Fundacion Mujeres de Palabra and the significant role she has played as President of Polla Chilena in her four year-period in that position, apart from her permanente work to make this public company one of the leading companies in the country and within the lottery market -both in Latinamerica and the world-, were only a few of the reasons why Veronica Montellano obtained this important recognition.

In spite of the inequity and gender inequality still existing in Chile, Veronica Montellano became one of the feminine referents this year, as a succesful executive, professional and woman.

And, as the Executive Director of Mujeres Empresarias stated, "each of the awarded women are an example worthy of being followed since they were important in the spheres of action they worked in, thanks to their merits and to their capacity to fight for their ideals and objectives, irrespective of the difficulties." In this way, Veronica Montellano, became one of the Chilean women most renown this year 2009, and also the President of the Republic of Chile, Michelle Bachelet; The General Minister of the Interior, Carolina Toha; and the Chilean writer kown in the whole world, Isabel Allende, among others, who were also selected as part of the 100 Leading Women of the year.
